Boost your cherry flowers for a good production

A strong fruit set is all important for a high quality and healthy yield.

Top fruit crops are close to flowering. Now it is the time to choose the right strategy for a strong fruit set. A strong fruit set is all important for a high quality and healthy yield.

The flower buds, formed in Autumn, are swelling and ready to open. During the short flowering period the crop experiences a tremendous hormonal shift moving from the earlier vegetative stage to this all-important reproductive phase. In addition to standard nutrition, the crop will require higher concentrations of trace minerals and calcium. Flower buds, embryo and subsequent blossom contains zinc, manganese, boron and other trace elements in quantities 80 to 100 times higher than leaf tissue! It is essential that enough energy and elements are available and utilized at this stage, as they play an important role during flowering and fruit set. Boron, for example is actively involved in pollen germination and seed, fruit and nut development. Vidi Terrum and Veni Calcium provide the plant extra energy and elements needed for a good yield and high quality.

Veni Calcium supplies the plant with readily available calcium that is needed for the cell wall formation during the cell division phase. Veni Calcium also contains boron, which enhances the calcium uptake and plays a vital role in promoting fruit set.

Results from trials, with Vidi Terrum and Veni Calcium, applied prior to and during flowering and after fruit set, at ‘Proeftuin Randwijk’ shows that the average yield, in cherries, could improve with 22%. The trial was conducted in cultivar Kordia, 10 year old trees.

The advantage of Vidi Terrum and Veni Calcium is that it could be applied during the flowering phase without disturbing pollinators.

In addition to natural occurring pollinators, and/or honeybees, Natupol bumblebees could be introduced. When Natupol bumblebees are introduced as planned, good pollination is ensured.
